Help us reduce the environmental impact of air travel
Future Needs, in collaboration with ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa, is conducting interviews with senior aviation stakeholders as part of the EU-funded RefMap project. Your insights will play a critical role in shaping the RefMap analytics platform, helping airlines make more eco-friendly decisions.
We are seeking contributions from sustainable aviation stakeholders who are committed to reducing aviation’s environmental impact, including:
- Airlines
- Policymakers
- The general community
- Legal authorities
- Environmental agencies
“Traditionally, research projects follow a more linear process – developing tools based on an initial plan. However, in this project, we aim to gather feedback from stakeholders and the community on the initial plan and then incorporate it into the research process.” — Anna Palaiologk, Head of Research at Future Needs.
How to apply
If you’re interested in contributing to this research, please send an email to Anna Palaiologk at anna@futureneeds.eu, with the title “Expert for REFMAP MVP interview”.
About RefMap
RefMap develops a digital service focused on quantifying the environmental footprint of air mobility for airliners and Unmanned Aircraft Systems where single trajectories and the flow traffic of multiple vehicles are optimised to minimise the environmental impact on communities. By using environmental data, such as wind, noise, CO2 and non-CO2 emissions, RefMap‘s analytics platform will help airlines make eco-friendly decisions. This leads to stricter evidence-based “green” policymaking in the aviation sector and the development of new aviation business models in line with the EU’s Green Agenda.
The interview process
Our stakeholder interviews are designed to assess and improve RefMap’s features. We want to understand which tools are most useful to the aviation community and identify additional features that could enhance the platform. Participants will be asked to evaluate various tools and how they contribute to solving real-world aviation challenges.
- Format: Online video conference
- Duration: 1 hour
- Data: Your personal information will not be stored, shared or processed. All information will be anonymised.
- Narrative control: You will be asked to review the transcript before it is processed.
Based on your expertise, you will be presented with real-life scenarios tailored to specific RefMap features, followed by multiple-choice and open-ended questions. Your feedback will help prioritise the platform’s features, which will form the basis for RefMap’s Minimum Viable Product (MVP). This feedback will also contribute to the development of new, sustainable business models within the aviation industry.
Future Needs’ role in the RefMap project
In the RefMap project, Future Needs leads project branding, dissemination, and communication activities. We are also responsible for clustering activities with relevant projects and stakeholders in the ATM/U-space sector. Moreover, we lead the work package focused on developing RefMap services and the European businesses they will support. This includes validating RefMap analytics and simulations, defining the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) based on user needs, and establishing new business models enabled by these analytics.
