MULTIPULM kick-off in Athens: from vision to viability

On September 29–30, 2025, Future Needs joined project partners in Athens for the two-day MULTIPULM Kick-off Meeting, hosted by Uni Systems. The sessions established a clear roadmap toward developing an integrated digital care ecosystem to support the management of chronic respiratory diseases and multimorbidity in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).

Beyond leading Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation (DCE) activities in alignment with the clinical and technical plan, Future Needs also drives the project’s work on financing strategies, organisational models, and viability assessments. By applying Health Technology Assessment (HTA) methodologies, these efforts ensure that MULTIPULM’s outcomes move beyond the laboratory and are ready for real-world adoption, supporting the long-term sustainability and integration of the MULTIPULM solution within healthcare systems.

Clinical pilots in Brazil, Serbia, and Türkiye

MULTIPULM will be validated through three clinical pilots, each informing real-world feasibility and scale:

  • Brazil: testing strategies suitable for resource-limited environments to support patient outcomes and caregivers.
  • Serbia: adapting solutions to strengthen chronic disease and multimorbidity pathways.
  • Türkiye: advancing patient-centred digital tools integrated with national services.

These pilots are central to evidence generation. Our role is to translate their insights into practical models that can be scaled and sustained, both technically and financially.

From Dissemination to Exploitation and Viability

As MULTIPULM lead for Dissemination, Communication, and Exploitation, as well as Financing and Viability Assessment, Future Needs ensures that project knowledge moves through every stage,  from discovery to adoption,  becoming usable, fundable, and sustainable long after the project ends.

It all starts with raising awareness and building trust.

We have designed a common visual identity and clear communication strategy that reflect the project’s vision, engage clinicians, patients, and policymakers, and position MULTIPULM within broader national and EU health initiatives. By sharing results through journals, conferences, and workshops, we will turn technical findings into accessible knowledge that invites feedback and collaboration.

From awareness, we move to understanding value.

Together with partners and stakeholders, we will assess financing, reimbursement, and organisational models that can support the full uptake of MULTIPULM in target countries. Through interviews and field insights, we will identify financial gaps and design payment systems that reward holistic, integrated care over fragmented treatment — a step toward sustainable funding and health equity.

Finally, we focus on ensuring adoption.

Building on this foundation, we will translate these insights into a comprehensive market strategy and implementation plan that supports both commercial and non-commercial outcomes of MULTIPULM. The resulting financial feasibility assessments and organizational models provide a clear pathway for adoption, reflecting cost-effectiveness and willingness to pay for improved healthcare delivery. By combining economic and operational viability with strong communication and stakeholder engagement, we will ensure that innovation translates into meaningful, real-world impact.
