Future Needs Organises Precision Viticulture Event in Cyprus (+Photos)

October 6, 2025

On October 3rd, 2025, Future Needs organised the final demo event of our EU-funded project, SmartVitiNet, supported by the ERDF I3 scheme, where we lead communication, dissemination and exploitation activities. Following successful showcases in France and Portugal, the Cyprus event welcomed viticulturists, researchers, and vineyard owners to beautiful Ktima Gerolemo in Omodos. Participants experienced live drone flights over the vineyards, demonstrating real-time data collection and stress detection, and explored the SmartVitiNet Competence Centre and Training Portal, offering practical tools and resources to support the digital transition in viticulture.

“We want our students to use technology and drones in agriculture to make work easier and more cost-effective. I discovered SmartVitiNet for the first time at this event and met experts I hope to collaborate with. Together, we can support young people, learn from each other, and make agriculture more exciting! It was a great event, and I hope to see more initiatives like this that bring technology to agriculture and everyday life. This is the future.” – Thomas Antoniou (VET School – Academic/Researcher)

Besides organising the event, Future Needs also ran an informative workshop on EU funding for the agriculture sector, delivered by our Innovation Project Manager & Researcher Thanos Arvanitidis. He presented available funding schemes and showed how the EU helps innovators bring new ideas to life.

If you are interested in EU funding opportunities for the agriculture sector, you can request a free consultation through the Competence Centre here.

The afternoon concluded with networking, wine tasting, and a light lunch. Ktima Gerolemo owners shared seven premium wines, giving attendees the chance to connect, exchange ideas, and enjoy the local flavours in a friendly atmosphere.
