The GreenPosts project aim is to create training material for posts’ staff on how to put the European Green Deal into practice at the local level, and respect the UN Sustainable Development Goal 13 saying “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts” and SDG 11 saying “Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable”.
The role of Future Needs in the project
In the GreenPosts project Future Needs will support Postal Services from 4 countries in building organisational capacity in Climate Change mitigation and adaptation strategies. Future Needs will also contribute to the improvement and extension of the supply of high-quality learning opportunities for adults, under the perspective of lifelong learning via an Online Training Courses and a virtual Think Tank. In particular Future Needs leads the development of training material on the topic of Green Financial Management and Budgeting.
What is the aim of the training programme?
The training programme will be piloted in 4 countries and will enable posts across Europe and beyond to:
- Set a clear, long-term direction with flexibility to adapt to new evidence and circumstances.
- Provide robust and credible reporting, governance and accountability.
- Put in place strong local leadership and a more integrated delivery framework.
- Set incentives for and start practicing sustainable financial management.
- Make sure everyone plays their part in delivering the improved environment we all want.
The project is also meant to involve postal office workers in a variety of environmental problems of their local society related to noise or air pollution, waste disposal, consumer education and protection. Furthermore, the activities of GreenPosts offer the opportunity for inter-regional sharing, sustaining the success of the related internal training workshops developed by the partner organisations. Partners will be sharing best practice and information facilitating continuous improvement and effective carbon management and climate change mitigation and adaptation beyond the consortium.
Both the online training developed and the online community established will help the participants to keep up-to-date with science and policy on EU level, as well as to enhance their competences in various sustainability-relevant sectors.
